Chapter 15 - Forge and Drill

The time for planning was over, the time for action and liberation has began. Order shall not be established indirectly not by being passive but liberating the enslaved, and the abused. With the ongoing construction of home, the forge halls and the acquisition of the Obsidian Marshall Garrus Vane and the Tenebrium Alcides Ynatos the needing for a superiorly armed fighting force was demanded. Every last founding Raven Legion soldier went through training under Garrus include Veridian to hone his skills and make him a truly affective commander. Every soldier went through grueling training exercises to not just hone their body but their minds as well.

Soldiers were trained to fight in perfect synchrony under the Flock-Link heeding and obeying every command from their commander until there was no loss between thought and action. Each of the original twenty four soldiers would become captains of their own companies with in a Legion where Veridian would become the first Legion Commander of the Imperium.

While the harsh training was implemented daily, Alcides had to begin forging the the weapons and armor requires by an elite host of men. Obsidian plate armor and obsidian reinforced weapons, their very armor and weapons enchanted with a passive effect of dread against their enemies. Obsidian black plate overlapping designed with raven feathers across it. Each piece of plate, each link of mail, even black hardened leather all infused with the very essence of obsidian. Making them far more durable, and lighter not to mention the Aura of Dread it gave off when a unit marched together on the field.

Every weapon forged would be sharp beyond belief, its very nature inhibited healing of their foes, the very blade of the weapon emitting a chill along the blade. the very structure of the weapons, of armor was the foundational meaning of Dark Order.

As each original member mastered the art of war and discipline they themselves took on others under their command to train them. Each Captain responsible for the growing Legion and training them to the standard required of the budding Imperium. Every crafter under Alcides also wore a brand albeit of lesser rank to himself so as to produce the required weapons needed.

Every soldier received a brand of basic design this enabled them to be integrated into the Flock-Link system where all orders were passed down through. A secure communication line that could not be disrupted, every soldier able to relay information to their Captain. Every Captain able to relay orders down to their companies and ensuring they were flexible as a battlefield required and they received orders from their Legion Commander.

This was no longer about establishing order, with a constant influx of people; men, women, children, and families altogether this was about protecting their people. People that chose to follow Corvin and his will for Order over what they knew despite fear, despite the danger. Able bodied men who did not wish to build or had particular skills gave service to the Imperium with in it's growing Legion. Every captain held fifty men under their command, far from the paltry force of twenty four men they started with. Sixteen of the Captain and their men were the vanguard of their budding legion, while the other eight Captains and their men would mostly consist of archers, while they would be proficient in direct combat they specialized in long range support.

Each of the sixteen were issued Obsidian plate along with obsidian gladius' the very blade forged of obsidian iron, the hilt of wood from the local trees and infused with obsidian wrapped in dark obsidian fused leather. The very blade emitted a chill, you feel the sharpness just from staring at the blade. Their shields; a scutum of obsidian steel decorated with a raven, wings spread out. Sturdy and and almost immovable because it would only move forward.

The other eight companies would use longbows of obsidian yew cut down by lumberjacks and processed into timber. Each longbow used to fire arrows with obsidian tipped heads capable of spreading the Dread Fear at range. These units would bombard the enemy columns as they draw closer and peppering their rear when engaged with the other units in melee.

As each company marched in practiced drilling sessions, the forge was finally completed a gothic fire harden obsidian forge with multiple massive hearths. Several massive hearths capable of reaching temperatures only magic could obtain. Massive bellows pumped air into these hearths fueling them. Several blacksmiths able to work simultaneously without ever feeling cramped. Cavernous vaulting ceiling where each chimney column pierced to vent any fumes that could cause issue. Huge wood pullies and cranes can be seen moving steel, and iron infused material to their needed locations. A forge truly capable of arming a growing legion.

Corvin looked out from the keep walls, a rarely seen smile on his face as he observes the every growing city of obsidian and his dark order expanding out, the forge billowing large amounts of smoke above. His budding Raven Legion doing marching drills in their full armament. Every citizen contributing to Order, to his Obsidian Will. Not one man or women was lazy or lax everyone worked together for the Imperium and their own security with in, almost religiously with a zeal.

The secondary outer walls were making tremendous progress, once completed Corvin was able to see the possible vision of another Keep expanding his influence further. However the largest market town in his current domain required to be torn down. Removing the Union influence in his domain took precedence before any of their Inquisitors came knocking. Suddenly the Unkindness began to circle the keep, cawing in unison hearing their master's thoughts in agreement. Who knows what this next step would bring, what he may find, who he may find.

It was time for the Raven Legion to be put to the test, there would be no more subtle plans, no more stealth. Corvin felt Umbra call to his senses a raven caught something in their vision in the very market city he planned to remove to secure his domain. What it saw, what Corvin saw through the raven's eye caused the very clouds emitted from the influence of the Void stone to coil and churn. Lightning arced across the sky and thunder rumbled as if a giant awakening in a fury. Every person who was branded could feel a sense of unadulterated anger.

Garrus Vane immediately issued a command to their Legion into formation, doing a about face and slamming down to one knee along with the of the Legion and in unison they yelled WE AWAIT YOUR ORDERS!
