Chapter 15 - wilderness: testing of strength

The wilderness stretched endlessly before them, a sprawling expanse of jagged cliffs, dense forests, and open plains. The wind carried the faint scent of wild beasts, and the distant roars of large predators reminded anyone venturing here that only the strongest could survive. For Luo Feng and Luo Zheng, it was home now—a place where strength and skill would be tested without restriction.

They drove their high-tech cars deep into the wilderness, the ox-red and dark silver of Luo Feng's vehicle gleaming against the green landscape, while Luo Zheng's dark purple and dark gold car blended almost seamlessly with the shadowed trees. Both brothers felt a strange thrill: the wilderness was vast, and here, they could finally test themselves without holding back.

Activating their SSS-grade combat suits, the brothers felt the familiar surge of power coursing through their bodies. The suits enhanced their speed, strengthened their defenses, and amplified every physical movement. Today, however, they would not use their blades, nor the spiritual energy that surged just beneath their skin. Today was about raw strength and adaptation.

"We'll each pick a beast soldier," Luo Zheng said, his eyes scanning the horizon. "No blades. No energy. Just us and our bodies. Let's see exactly what we can do."

Luo Feng nodded, a faint smile tugging at his lips. "Agreed. Let's test the suits first, then our strength. Nothing held back."

Defense Testing

The two brothers split slightly, moving into separate clearings to find suitable targets. Luo Feng's attention fell on a tiger-like beast soldier, its muscular form rippling as it prowled. Luo Zheng's gaze locked onto a serpent-type beast soldier, slithering silently through the trees with a low, menacing hiss.

The beasts sensed the brothers and immediately lunged. Luo Feng braced, letting the tiger strike his suit at full force. The impact rattled the ground, but his suit held firm. Not a scratch. Not even a dent.

Across the way, Luo Zheng endured the serpent's full-power attack. Its venom-laced fangs and tail lashes lashed against his suit with immense speed, yet again the armor resisted effortlessly. Both brothers nodded to themselves. Their SSS-grade suits could withstand commander-level attacks without the slightest compromise.

"Perfect," Luo Feng said aloud. "Defense test complete. No weaknesses detected."

"Agreed," Luo Zheng replied, a smirk on his face. "Now… raw strength."

Raw Strength Testing

The brothers moved closer to their respective beasts. The tiger lunged at Luo Feng, but this time he didn't brace. Instead, he pivoted, letting his fist fly in a clean, direct strike. The punch connected squarely with the beast's chest. The sound of cracking bone echoed, and the tiger collapsed instantly, lifeless.

Luo Zheng mirrored the action. The serpent reared back, striking with its tail, but a single punch from Luo Zheng's fist crushed the creature's skull before it could fully coil. The ground shook from the force of the impact. Both brothers exhaled, eyes scanning the horizon. They were warlords now—this level of raw strength was theirs to wield.

For the next several days, they trained like this repeatedly. Each day they selected new beast soldiers, testing their bodies and suits against fully-grown, high-level monsters. No weapons. No spiritual energy. Only their fists and their instincts.

By the end of the first week, both brothers had perfected a rhythm. Luo Feng's movements were precise and fluid, while Luo Zheng's were calculated and almost surgical. Together, they had reached a point where a single strike could fell a beast soldier of significant power, and they could maneuver faster than most opponents could even react.

Encounters with Other Teams

During their training, the wilderness was not entirely empty. Occasionally, other warrior teams passed through the area, chasing their own hunts.

Some of these teams caught glimpses of the twins in action. One moment, a tiger-type beast soldier lunged at a group of warriors, and before anyone could react, a shadow passed over the creature, and it fell, crushed by a single, invisible strike.

"They… they're moving faster than the eye can follow," one young warrior muttered.

"They have the same suits," another whispered. "And they only use fists… no weapons, no energy."

Sometimes, the twins would intervene, saving weaker teams from dangerous beasts, but they never stayed long. Their presence alone left a rumor in the wind, growing stronger with every rescue or kill.

Selling Loot and Xu Xin

After several days, the brothers would return to sell the beast parts and materials. Each trip, Luo Feng sought out Xu Xin. She greeted him warmly every time, her eyes lighting up at the sight of him.

"Back again?" she said once, tilting her head.

"Yes," Luo Feng replied with a small smile. "This time, a week's worth of work. The beasts have been plentiful."

As they sold the materials and claimed their contribution points, the murmurs of recognition followed them. People whispered:

"The Evil Twins are back!"

"Look at those matching suits—they're identical!"

"They only use fists and speed. Weapons untouched. That's insane!"

Even the cashiers began to remember them. By the third visit, one of them greeted Luo Feng with a knowing nod.

"You again," the cashier said, half in awe, half in disbelief. "Selling a mountain of beast parts, like always."

"Yes," Luo Feng said, chuckling lightly. "It's been… productive."

Flame Team Reunion

At the end of the week, while selling loot, the twins ran into the Flame Team. It had been some time since their last mission together, and the reunion was lively.

"Where have you two been hiding?" Gao Feng exclaimed, eyes wide.

"We've been training," Luo Feng said simply, a faint grin on his face.

The Flame Team listened as the twins casually described their week—killing beast soldiers, selling parts, exploring deeper wilderness areas.

"Wait… you fought high-level beasts?" Chen Gu asked incredulously.

Luo Zheng shrugged, downplaying their accomplishments. "Yes, but nothing beyond quasi-warrior rank. We kept things moderate."

The Flame Team was stunned. Even with the downplay, the twins' feats were far beyond what they remembered. They had killed high beast soldiers, like the serpent, yet the twins acted as if it were routine.

The conversation shifted to celebration. Meat was roasted, cups clinked, and laughter echoed through the small camp. Yet beneath the surface, the Flame Team couldn't help but wonder just how powerful the twins had truly become.

Departure into Deeper Wilderness

After the celebration, Luo Feng and Luo Zheng stood at the edge of the wilderness frontier.

"We're heading deeper," Luo Feng said.

Gao Feng and the others exchanged worried glances. "Be careful… you're already beyond what we thought," Chen Gu said, voice low.

Luo Zheng smiled faintly, eyes scanning the trees. "Don't worry. We know our limits… for now."

With that, the twins walked into the wilderness, their true strength still hidden, leaving only whispers of their exploits in the wake of their suits, their fists, and their unmatched speed.
