Evelise shifted, folding her arms. "Well, I don't want to think about the 'science' of it. I just want to forget that it made me... and then Oshan... behave like that. It wasn't us. It was just the smoke."
She looked away, her voice softer. "I rushed. I've been rushing because seeing you in pain makes me rush. I promise, I will be more careful with the next attempt."
Sid sighed, running a hand over his face. The physical and emotional exhaustion was overwhelming. He knew he had to set the tone, or the guilt would consume the house.
"Okay. Good. No more rush. No more pink smoke. Now," he announced, pushing himself up, despite the twinge in his knee, "I'm starving. I'm going to prepare dinner. We need to eat. Forget the basement, forget the accident. We are safe now."
