Chapter 8 - Run as fast as you can

Jay Jay's POV:

I can't even breathe. The phone feels like it's burning my hand. Enjoying your little moment? It won't last.

What the hell does that even mean?? My stomach twists like I just swallowed a blender. I look at Keifer, his jaw is clenched so tight I'm scared his teeth will break.

"Jay," he says, his voice low and serious. "Pack your things. Now."

"H-huh?" I blink at him, still hugging the ice cream tub like it's my last lifeline. "You can't just—"

"Now, Jay." His tone leaves no room for argument. The Keifer I was just kissing five seconds ago? Gone. This Keifer looks like he's ready to fight a war.

My heart races faster. I scramble to the guest room, shoving my things into my bag like a headless chicken. My brain is screaming this isn't real, this isn't real, but my hands keep moving. Snorlax? Check. Phone charger? Check. Ice cream tub? … ok don't judge me.

From the kitchen, I hear Keifer on the phone, his voice sharp. "Aries, it's me. They know. No, I don't care—tell Kuya to get ready. We're moving tonight."

Moving?? Tonight?? My chest tightens as I peek out the door. "Keifer? Where are we even going?" My voice cracks.

He looks at me, softer for just a second. "Somewhere safer. I won't let them touch you, Jay. Not while I'm here."

My face heats despite the situation. Dammit brain, this is NOT the time for thrill!

Before I can say anything else, my phone buzzes again. My hands shake as I open the message.

Running won't save you. He can't protect you forever.

I drop the phone on the bed. My throat feels dry. Whoever this is, they're watching us. Right now.

Keifer picks up the phone, reads it, and swears under his breath. Then he grabs my wrist gently but firmly. "Jay. Listen to me. Stick close. Don't let go of my hand, no matter what happens."

I nod weakly, clutching Snorlax with my other arm like a child.

We step outside into the cold night air. For a second, it's quiet, too quiet. My skin prickles. My eyes dart to the parked cars on the street. One of them has tinted windows.

And I swear… I see movement inside.

My grip on Keifer's hand tightens. "K-Keifer… someone's out there." I point slightly so that the person inside doesn't feel any suspicion.

The words barely leave my mouth when the car door creaks open. A figure steps out, hood pulled low. Another one follows from the shadows. My chest feels like it's caving in.

Keifer instantly pushes me behind him. "Stay close," he mutters. His hand slips to the knife he left tucked under his jacket. He looks calm, but his muscles are tense, like a coiled spring.

The first hooded guy takes a step forward. "Hand her over, Watson. This doesn't concern you."

Keifer lets out a short, dangerous laugh. "Too bad. She's mine."

Awww Keiferrr- Oi! Brain this isn't the time to daydream!

Before I can even blink, the second figure lunges toward us. Keifer yanks me back and kicks the guy straight in the stomach, sending him sprawling on the ground.

"Run!" he shouts.

But my legs? THEY DON'T WORK. I'm frozen like a freaking deer in headlights.

The first guy charges this time, pulling something shiny from his pocket. A knife. My heart leaps into my throat.

Keifer moves fast, catching the guy's arm before the blade can reach me. They struggle, bodies twisting in the dark, the sound of grunts and metal scraping filling the air.

I stumble back, clutching Snorlax like it's a bulletproof vest. "K-Keifer!!" I scream.

He shoves the attacker off, but three more figures appear at the end of the street.

Oh my god. They're everywhere.

Keifer grabs my hand again, his grip like iron. "Jay, RUN!"

"Jay, RUN!"

"Jay, RUN!"

This time—I do. My legs finally move on their own, pumping hard as I sprint down the street. My slippers slap against the pavement, my lungs already burning. I don't even look back. I can hear them behind me—shouts, pounding footsteps, the sound of boots hitting concrete.

"Don't stop, Jay!" Keifer's voice roars from somewhere behind, but my brain is a blur. It's just me, the road ahead, and the terrifying truth that they're right on my heels.

I cut through an alley, heart hammering so loud it drowns out everything else. The air is cold, sharp in my throat. My hands clutch Snorlax tight against my chest like it'll shield me somehow.

A shadow darts out in front of me and I shriek, stumbling back. My foot nearly slips, but adrenaline pushes me forward again. Faster, Jay. Faster. My vision is blurry with panic and tears, but I keep running, my chest burning, legs screaming.

I don't know where I'm going. I just know I can't stop. If I stop, they'll catch me.

My lungs are on fire. Every step feels like my legs are about to give out, but I can't stop. I won't stop. The shouts behind me echo through the street, louder, closer.

"Over there! Don't let her get away!"

No, no, no! My slippers slap against the pavement as I turn a corner, nearly tripping over a trash bin. My chest aches, my throat is raw, but I force myself to keep going. If I slow down even for a second—they'll catch me.

My eyes sting with tears as I dart into a narrow alley. It's darker here, the shadows swallowing me whole. For a heartbeat, I think I've lost them. Relief starts to bubble in my chest—until I skid to a halt.

Dead end.

"Shi-." The word slips out before I can stop it.

I spin around, panic surging like electricity. Heavy footsteps pound closer, echoing off the walls. I press myself against the corner, clutching Snorlax against me like a shield, praying they'll run past, please just run past

Too late.

A hand shoots out of the darkness, clamping around my wrist. I shriek, thrashing wildly, but another figure emerges and shoves me back against the cold wall. The impact rattles through my spine, knocking the air out of me.

"Got you," a voice sneers.

"No! Let me go!" I scream, kicking, but one of them grabs my arms and pins them above my head. Snorlax slips from my grasp, landing in the dirt.

What the hell Jay! My head feels weak as I drift down to the floor.

"I think we got her!" I hear faint noises.

"Lets tell them!" I hear another one yell.

Who's them?

Stand up JAY! I see my efforts going to waste as i feel my head, It doesn't feel right! I gently place my hand on my head. I look at my stained hands with my blurry, fatigued eyes। Red, dark burning, BLOOD.

"You're so useless!"

"JAY JAY!" I scream in the dark streets.

"Jay Jay!" I yell again, voice cracking. No answer.

I whip around the corner, nearly slipping on the wet concrete. My heart's pounding so loud I can't hear anything else. Where is she? Where did she go?

I spot Snorlax first.

Lying in the dirt. Alone.

I walk into the dark alley.

"I think we got her!" I hear voices near by

"Lets tell them!" I hear another one yell.

I gasp- Jay jay?

Then I see it.

A smear of red on the wall.

Blood.

My stomach drops. "Jay…"

I see her stand up- oh great...

She charges towards the 2 men that were laughing, she repeatedly punches the 2 men.

I run towards her

"I'm here," I say, "I've got you."

"Stay away from me!" She yells as she tries to punch the 2 men that were now on the floor.

"You're okay," I whisper. "You're okay now."

But I know the truth.

She's not.

And I swear, whoever did this?

They're going to pay.
