Chapter 2 - The "Detective Agency" is open!

The city lights are bright and warm at night. As a broad-eared fox, I love this time of day the most—people are resting, the animals are getting active, and I, Huhu, am about to enter my "nighttime work mode."

Speaking of my secret identity, don't be fooled by my usually cute and harmless appearance; I'm actually a "private detective" for the animals in our neighborhood! This isn't a casual remark. I've solved countless "difficult and complicated" problems for our neighbors' cats and dogs, making me a true "Inspector Fox."

One evening, Xiaomeng and I had just finished dinner and were snoozing comfortably at her feet when there was a sudden, urgent knock on the door.

"Hoo! Huhu! Help me!" My neighbor, Ah Miao, rushed in in a panic, his tail erect like a broom and his eyes filled with anxiety.

Xiaomeng quickly poured Ah Miao a glass of water, and I immediately perked up my wide ears, ready to enter "detective mode."

"What happened, Ah Miao?" I asked.

Ah Miao panted, "My catnip is gone! I suspect someone stole it. Without it, I've been feeling listless for days!"

Catnip is like caffeine to humans: a necessary necessities for energy and excitement. Without it, Ah Miao languishes all day, unable to even take a graceful nap.

I followed Ah Miao to his bed, carefully examining every detail. A few broken catnip leaves lay scattered on the floor, surrounded by a few unusual paw prints.

I squatted down and sniffed carefully, my nose immediately picking up an unusual scent.

"Those paw prints don't look like cat paw prints, more like dog paw prints," I concluded.

"Wangcai!" Ah Miao's tail twitched in anger. "I knew it was him, that naughty little dog who always steals my sleeping spot and eats the canned food from my food bowl."

Wangcai was a well-known mischievous kid in the neighborhood, a small beagle with an innocent look who was always making trouble wherever he went.

"Ah Miao, I'll investigate this!" I vowed.

After dark, I quietly lurked in the shadows of the neighborhood and began secretly tracking Wangcai.

Wangcai walked softly, afraid of being discovered, turning his head back as he made his way to the flowerbed.

Utilizing my fox-like keen sense of hearing and smell, I followed him silently.

Wangcai began digging in the dirt beside the flowerbed, his movements somewhat clumsily. I held my breath, crouching nearby and watching.

He unearthed a small package wrapped in an old cloth and carefully buried it in the soil.

The next day, I summoned Ah Miao and Wangcai to the garden and dug up the catnip packet.

"Wangcai, you're secretly hiding catnip and trying to blame it on someone else. That's not very nice," I patted his head gently with my fox paw.

Wangcai looked dejected, his face brimming with guilt.

"Wangcai, it's good that you know you're wrong. Tell me when you're hungry next time, and we can share," I said. Ah Miao nodded, and the two little creatures finally shook hands for the first time, calming the atmosphere.

This incident quickly spread throughout the neighborhood, and more and more small animals came to me for help.

Missing toys, hidden snacks, and mysterious noises—I never tire of investigating them.

Xiao Meng learned my little secret and smiled, saying, "Huhu, you're truly a little city hero."

I proudly wagged my tail: "Huhu Detective Agency, always serving justice!"

Of course, detective life isn't all seriousness. My neighbors often "trick" me into stopping cases on the spot because I'm so cute.

Once, Wangcai brought a few stray puppies to "seek justice." Seeing my wide ears and fluffy tail, they pounced on me, hugged me, and rubbed their faces, completely forgetting their previous disagreements.

Xiao Meng saw this and laughed until her stomach hurt: "Huhu, your 'fox charm' is amazing!"

Even though I was busy solving cases, I remained Xiao Meng's most loyal companion.

When she comes home from get off work, I'm always the first to greet her. When she's feeling down, I'll quietly stay with her, gently caressing her palm with my soft tail.

This city is vast, but with her and this group of friends, my life is filled with warmth and meaning.
