Chapter 236 - Chapter 236: Is This Really a Hunting Game?

Chapter 236: Is This Really a Hunting Game?

Alex rested his chin in front of the computer. Now that he had decided to create Monster Hunter: World, he still had to think about how to do it.

From a gameplay perspective, Monster Hunter: World is a unique game. Other multiplayer games have PvE elements, but Monster Hunter: World is a purely cooperative game. In Dark Souls, players can invade other players' worlds. And later, for many Dark Souls masters, PvP was essentially the fun of the game.

But in Monster Hunter: World there is no PvP. The game emphasizes teamwork and the collaborative hunting of dragon creatures. As for "jokes among friends" like cutting a companion with double swords or the three-charge hammer blow, these scenes are all exceptions and are definitely not the game's PvP content.

From a purely game-specific perspective, whether it's the setting or the story, Monster Hunter: World has a unique style.

First and foremost, its main appeal is its action system and a realistic hunting experience. These elements are designed to improve the overall hunting experience. In typical games, boss battles usually last a few minutes, or at most ten.

However, in Monster Hunter: World, when facing powerful bosses, it is quite common for most average players to spend more than ten or twenty minutes fighting them. Of course, the quick deaths of powerful bosses, or of those who have already accumulated powerful equipment and are now intimidating the dragon, are not considered acceptable.

In combination with the performance of the AI, Alex believes that the game will offer a more immersive hunting experience than the previous Monster Hunter: World.

Secondly, the class system, or rather, the weapon system, is crucial. Although there are no classes categorized as warrior or mage, there are different types of weapons. Just as the different weapons in Dark Souls offer different attack methods, Monster Hunter: World offers a wide variety of weapons for players to choose from.

Each weapon also has a unique combo ability. Just like in a fighting game, players must perform a series of movements before successfully executing a weapon movement. Of course, in practice, it is not like a fighting game, where players are limited to a long list of movements. It's not that if you don't know how to do combos, you can't play. It's just that you won't be able to perform impressive movements.

In addition, compared to Dark Souls, Monster Hunter: World is much easier because the game has a gradual progression of difficulty. To put it bluntly, Dark Souls allows you to suffer first and then gradually get used to the game. Monster Hunter, on the other hand, allows you to get used to it first and then suffer: a very intuitive experience.

Secondly, Monster Hunter: World is a very playable game. Why? When you play for hundreds of hours without finding a single attack orb, you will understand why it is so easy to understand. The game is based on grinding, but grinding alone would not be enough to maintain such a long gaming experience.

In short, even when facing the same monsters, each hunt offers a unique experience. The changes in the battle environment, the sudden appearance of other bosses, the instability of companions when playing in a group, and the inherent attack patterns of the monsters contribute to a unique and surprisingly fluid experience, instead of a monotonous one.

And, crucially, Monster Hunter: World offers numerous tricks that allow even the least expert players to master the game with a deep knowledge of its characteristics. Of course, it is not completely foolproof.

After two consecutive days of finalizing the outlines of the conceptual design of Monster Hunter: World, Alex summoned Eric, Jane, and the others to the conference room for a meeting.

They all arrived early, excitedly commenting on the details in a low voice.

"What will the hunting game that Alex mentioned be like?".

"Yes, I think it's set in ancient times, where players mainly use spears, bows, and arrows to hunt in the wild."

"I'm more interested in how the AI will behave in the hunt."

"I'm so excited!".

Everyone in the conference room had heard about the new hunting game in recent days and their faces were full of anticipation. At that moment, Alex opened the door and everyone fell silent.

Sitting in the main seat, Alex looked at the group and said: "I'm sure you already know some details about the new game, so I won't waste any more time."

"The main objective of today's meeting is the development of a new game. Please look at the big screen."

After Alex finished speaking, the title of the game, Monster Hunter: World, appeared on the projector.

"First, let me briefly explain the theme and direction of the game."

"As for the theme, it's a hunting game, but the combat system will be quite unique, different from other action games on the market."

"In addition, within the game, we will create a vast ecological world to show a unique characteristic of artificial intelligence."

"Finally, the monsters that players will hunt will be mainly dragons... well, that's all."

Alex slid his finger across the touchpad of his laptop. A loading bar appeared on the conference room's projection screen, and after about ten seconds, an image appeared on the screen.

A huge monster appeared on the conference room's projection screen, with a yellowish-green shell, powerful wings, and limbs. Its fierce claws and sharp teeth gave it an incredibly terrifying look.

Next to it, a description of the monster: [Queen of the Earth - Female Fire Dragon].

Everyone was stunned by the image on the screen. The feeling of awe that this flying dragon inspired was simply overwhelming.

"In addition, in the game, players will not be divided into classes, but into different weapons. In short, weapons will replace classes."

As Alex explained, the image on the conference room's projection screen changed. Greatswords, longbows, double swords, katanas... a series of weapons appeared on the screen. Of course, they all had a common characteristic: they were bladed weapons.

Upon observing the performance on the conceptual map, although the weapon the hunter with leather armor was wielding was very large, it still felt like a younger brother compared to the fire dragon from before.

In addition, there are some unfinished sketches. For example, one of them shows a huge ancient dragon with its wings spread. The huge wings are covered with needles, and the double horns on the top of its head are even more terrifying.

"Alex, the new work... is it a souls game?", Eric asked with a mouth full of confusion.

Huge dragon monsters, small hunters, and bladed weapons.

'Is it really a hunting game? They're not going to be monster hunters, are they?'.

"Don't ask if there's anything else, just say yes."
