Chapter 215: Change the Name, How Embarrassing
"What's wrong? Why is it getting dark so soon?".
Sarah was still diligently cutting wood, absorbed in her fantasy of building something later. She had not noticed that the game's sky had already changed from day to dusk.
"Oh, no! This house isn't even built! I haven't even found the sheep!".
Sarah looked at the sky in a daze. She still hadn't cut much wood, only about sixty.
'Ten minutes had passed so quickly?'.
The time in the game was the same as in her previous Don't Starve, divided into day and night. A day lasted 20 minutes, with 10 minutes of light, 7 minutes of night, and the remaining three minutes of sunset.
If she built, she wouldn't like this place very much. Although she could tear it down after construction, it would be too much trouble. But if she didn't build, who knew what would happen in the game at night.
As Sarah hesitated, she could see the sky gradually darkening. Unlike Don't Starve, where visibility decreases at dusk and there is a danger of immediate death, Minecraft does not have this feature. Instead, there are small white skeletons with bows and small green zombies.
In Minecraft, however, players use a first-person perspective and an over-the-shoulder camera. Although it is a pixel art game, this perspective, combined with the darkness and the sounds of zombies and skeletons, creates a terrifying atmosphere.
"What do I do now? What do I do! What do I do!". Sarah looked at the monsters running towards her and started running.
As she ran, she noticed that there were more and more monsters behind her. It was like a locomotive, dragging a crowd of monsters. Among them was a white skeleton with a bow, constantly shooting arrows.
Although she had a wooden sword in her inventory, her previous experience with Don't Starve made her feel unable to face these monsters, especially with so many of them.
However, the more she ran, the more monsters she ran into.
"I got it!".
Suddenly, Sarah looked at the ground and had an idea. She took a hoe from the support bar and started digging. Three grids were perfect for her to fall, and then Sarah took a piece of dirt and blocked it on top.
In an instant, the entire game screen went dark, and only the roars of the monsters came from her headphones.
"It's safe now."
Only the roars of the monsters could be heard, but no movement could be seen. Sarah couldn't help but smile. The next step was to wait for dawn, until these monsters were gone.
Sarah was about to take her mobile phone out of her pocket to watch some short videos or something. At that moment, she heard the sound of a key opening the door outside the room, followed by footsteps. Sarah instinctively turned her head and saw Mike entering the room with a plastic bag.
"Hey, didn't you say it would take more than an hour?".
"I was lucky on the road today. The traffic light was green the whole time." Mike smiled and shook the plastic bag in his hand. "I bought you roasted duck rice. Eat it hot, otherwise, it will get cold and the duck will smell fishy."
"Understood," Sarah said, taking the roasted duck rice from Mike.
"Hey, your computer is broken!". Mike was stunned to see that the monitor was completely black.
"What's broken? I'm playing Minecraft!", Sarah asked as she removed the plastic bag.
"Is it an error? Why is the screen always black?". Mike was a little confused.
'The screen is completely black, and she told him she was playing?'.
"It's night outside and monsters are chasing me, so I'm hiding underground for now," Sarah explained.
"Isn't this game about building houses? Why are monsters chasing you?" Mike asked curiously.
"There are different modes. I'm playing survival mode, similar to Don't Starve," Sarah said.
"Really?". Mike understood.
While they were talking, Sarah put the game's audio on speakers. The noises of the monsters outside seemed to have faded.
But for safety, Sarah continued digging in the dark cave for a while.
"Wouldn't it be possible to just dig a hole and get out? What are you doing in the dark?" Mike asked, sitting next to her, watching Sarah stuff herself with food while she seemed to be digging into something on the black screen, a little bewildered.
"You haven't played this game, you don't understand! What if the monsters above are still there? It's safer to go around," Sarah explained.
After digging about twenty squares and accumulating twenty blocks of dirt in her inventory, Sarah finally reached the top. By then, it had finally dawned.
"The graphics are not bad!", commented Mike, sitting next to her, looking at the game screen.
"Okay, just watch. I'll build a house to live in and then I'll look for sheep to use their wool as a bed," Sarah said confidently, looking at the pile of wood and sand she was carrying on her body.
Not only had she trained her mind before. She even took some old building blocks from home and practiced with them. Now it was time to check her progress.
Although the only materials she had were mud and wood, that was enough. The wood could be used to make planks and doors with a workbench.
Although it was not exactly the "pink dream house" she had imagined, she thought that a simple and rustic wooden house would not be a problem.
"This place is beautiful, with mountains and water," Sarah said, choosing a place near a lake.
She built a workbench and then crafted the doors and planks.
Then, Sarah began her work.
Mike, watching next to her, rested his chin on his hand.
First, she laid the foundations. She dug up all the sand and filled it with wood, delimiting the floor area of the house. Since they didn't have much wood, they didn't want it to be too big; a bedroom and a living room would be enough.
Then, she began to build the walls. She left a gap in the center for the door, which would be installed later. Since she didn't know how to make steps, she simply placed two wooden blocks to represent the threshold.
While Sarah ate the roasted duck rice, savoring the delicious flavor of the duck and the aroma of the rice, her mind was racing, as if her Ren and Du meridians had opened. Her thoughts flowed like a spring, and the image of the house in her mind became sharp.
Since survival mode does not allow you to fly like creative mode, the walls were very high and then were covered. Sarah had to build bricks under her feet to climb.
"Hmm, leave some holes here. I saw a recipe that suggests I can make glass. I'll leave it for the glass later so I can watch the stars in bed at night," Sarah muttered to herself as she worked on her great construction project.
"As for the workbench, I'll put it in this corner. Then I'll add some decorations to beautify my house."
With the last piece of wood in place, Sarah finally felt that the work was done.
Meanwhile, the game's sky was slowly changing from light to twilight.
"I don't know if I should say this, Master Architect Sarah, is your house built like a cell?".
...Mike asked, standing next to her, observing the house in front of him.
The wooden house was a cube, with a workbench in the corner that looked like a toilet. There was no bed in the room.
Two wooden planks had been placed under the door as a threshold, giving it the appearance of a prison visitation door.
"It looks a little different from what I imagined," Sarah said, silently hunched over as she left the house and contemplated the structure in front of her.
She had imagined a wooden house, simple but elegant, whose details revealed artistic mastery. But the house in front of her was in the shape of a giant chimney, with its door like that of a prison visitation door.
Upon looking inside, there was nothing but a workbench.
'At least the prisons had a bed!'.
Coincidentally, the game's sky darkened and it began to rain. Raindrops filtered through the skylight she had reserved.
Instinctively, Sarah changed her perspective upwards, jumped to her feet, and covered the leak with the few pieces of wood she had left.
After the obstruction, the rain stopped filtering, but the only light inside came from the visitation door. The whole room was completely dark.
"Change your name, it's embarrassing."
Upon seeing Sarah's name, "Master of Architecture," Mike thought for a moment and said.
