Who are you trying to fool?!
Looking at Lamia's blonde hair, eerie red eyes, and the ominous black shadow wings behind her, Percher really wanted to retort with that.
Executing God's will? Just look at yourself! Do you look anything like an angel?
The same thought occurred to everyone else, but no one dared to say it out loud.
"God's will..." Percher subconsciously glanced at Su Mo.
Lamia had always called Su Mo "Master." If she was truly executing God's will, didn't that mean Su Mo was God?
How is that possible? How could I be lucky enough to meet such an omniscient and omnipotent being?
Unlike Percher, after a few seconds of silence, a villager in the crowd suddenly began to kowtow frantically.
"O God! Protect me! I am your faithful servant! Please grant me deliverance from devils and disasters!"
Whether he truly believed Lamia's words or not, his attitude was impeccable. In the final moments of his life, someone had begun to pray, and this act quickly spread to the others.
Faced with supernatural power, their only recourse was prayer.
And so, on the blood-and-rain-soaked ground, the villagers fell to their knees in unison. Even the lord began to pray with a look of terror on his face.
To correct a previous statement, Lamia's vampire form hadn't actually shattered the villagers' worldview; on the contrary, it had reinforced it.
After all, in medieval Europe, most people's worldview was consistent with that of Christianity. Therefore, concepts like gods, devils, and vampires were theoretically real, just not commonly seen.
Now, the very existence of Lamia in her vampire form proved that God also existed. This immediately ignited the villagers' not-so-fervent religious zeal.
Watching the suddenly praying villagers, Percher was speechless. If prayer worked, so many people wouldn't have died.
But she knew there was no point in saying that, so she looked up at Lamia. "You said you're executing God's will. What is your purpose?" Why would a vampire of her stature, with her entire household, come to an ordinary village like this?
"For you, of course, Pest-chan!" Lamia gave an answer Percher could never have expected.
"Me?" The girl was momentarily stunned, unable to imagine why it would be her. What made her so important? Even Cinderella had her stunning looks. While I'm cute, I don't exactly stand out in front of Lamia and the others, do I?
"That's right!" As if reading her mind, Lamia nodded and added, "It is the Master's will!"
"The Master's will..." Percher subconsciously looked at Su Mo, finally certain that the "God" and "Master" Lamia spoke of were one and the same: Su Mo. But she still didn't understand why he had sought her out.
As she was pondering the reason, Lamia continued. "So, Pest-chan, you now have two choices."
"Two choices?" The girl blinked, confused.
"Mhm." Lamia, looking as if this had been planned all along, listed the conditions. "The first choice is to follow your original destiny: die a miserable death from the Black Death, then wander this land as a lonely spirit, dealing with the dead all day."
"After countless hardships, you'll finally become a divine scion representing eighty million souls. Lured by a mastermind, you'll go to a place called Little Garden to seek revenge on the ones who created the Black Death. In the end, your revenge will fail, and you'll become a complete 'losing dog,' unable to even control your own body."
At this, Lamia shook her head with pity. "Not only did your revenge fail, but you also became the villain. Sniffle, how pitiful!"
Seeing her dramatic tone, a vein throbbed on Percher's forehead. "I don't know where this 'Little Garden' is, or what this revenge is about, but if you don't want me to choose this path, you can just say so! No need to beat around the bush!"
Just like before, this girl was being completely honest about her schemes. Dying a miserable death from the Black Death and becoming a ghost? What normal person would want that future?!
"Oh my, I was just concerned for you, Pest-chan!" Seeing Percher's annoyed look, Lamia covered her mouth with a light laugh and continued. "Of course, there's a second choice. You can grow up healthy, safe, and sound as Lord Su Mo's handmaiden."
"You won't have to experience death or loneliness. You just need to follow the Master's arrangements, improve your strength step by step, and in the end, help defeat some trivial things like Humanity's Last Embryo and the Ultimate Demon King. It'll be a piece of cake!"
Towards the end, Lamia's speech quickened, blurring the last part before giving an encouraging thumbs-up and a smile. Anyone seeing her performance would think the second choice was incredibly easy.
However—
"What 'Humanity's Last Embryo'?! What 'Ultimate Demon King'?! Did you really think I wouldn't hear you just because you mumbled it?!" Percher, her mind razor-sharp, caught every word and retorted at full volume. "After all that buildup, it's still so dangerous! Don't I have a more normal path to choose from?!"
Although she didn't know what this "Humanity's Last Embryo" was, it sounded like a monster on par with Satan. Me, fighting a Demon King? Are you serious?!
Faced with Percher's desperate retort, Lamia spread her hands with a helpless expression. "Even if you say that, these are the only two paths available. If you want an easier one, you'll probably have to ask the Master."
"The Master..." Hearing this, Percher paused, her gaze finally turning to Su Mo.
She had served him as a handmaiden for the past few days and knew he was actually easy to talk to, but the class difference between them had kept their interactions minimal.
Now that Lamia's identity was revealed, Leticia was undoubtedly a vampire as well. As the master of two vampire sisters, even if Su Mo wasn't a god, he had to be at least a Demon King-level powerhouse. This made her hesitate, too afraid to speak.
Seeing Percher's trepidation, Su Mo spoke first. "Percher..."
"Here!" The girl's heart skipped a beat, and she subconsciously stood up straight, as if startled.
"Don't be nervous." Su Mo's voice was gentle. "If you want an easier choice, I can provide one for you."
"If you don't want to participate in arduous campaigns and wish to remain in this land, I can grant your wish."
"Whether it's curing your illness, resurrecting the villagers you knew, or protecting this village from the threat of the Black Death—even protecting this entire world, I can make it happen for you."
At these words, everyone froze.
Aside from Leticia and the others, all the natives, including Percher herself, stood rooted to the spot, unable to believe their ears.
"Resurrecting the dead, protecting an entire world?"
Resurrecting the dead was a miracle only the Son of God had displayed, a divine prerogative. And speaking of protecting the world was not something a mere devil could say.
Before, Percher had suspected Su Mo's true identity might be Satan or something similar. Now, she was beginning to realize that Lamia's earlier title might not have been a misdirection. Was the master before her truly the One God?
"That's right." As if not noticing Percher's astonishment, Su Mo said calmly, "If you desire peace and happiness, I can grant it to you. Whether it's the friends you knew or your own health, I can promise them to you... If you worry about the future, I can also grant you these wheat fields in perpetuity. You will no longer have to worry about marriage alliances or other demands. You can live safely, according to your own desires."
"..."
Su Mo's promise was so gentle and generous that Percher didn't know what to say.
No longer having to worry about her father's pressure, no longer having to fret over a forced marriage, just living freely with the wheat fields she loved. This was the happiness she had longed for, a possibility she had never even dreamed of.
"Why... Why are you so generous to me?" Percher stared at Su Mo, her eyes shining like the morning star. "You are my master. If you wished it, I would have no right to refuse any of these paths."
Why? Why are you being so good to me?
Faced with this question, Su Mo smiled lightly. "No reason."
"No reason?" Percher couldn't understand.
"The boons and curses of a god are just that sudden! No need to delve into the reason, no need to seek the god's will. Just think of it as a reward from the Master for being cute!" Lamia chimed in with a grin.
"So, what will you choose, Pest-chan? To be honest, living a peaceful life isn't bad, but I'd much rather you come with us! Otherwise, this whole trip would have been for nothing!" The girl pouted slightly. Though she was seemingly guiding Percher's choice, her attitude was one of complete respect.
As long as Percher made up her mind, she could obtain everything she desired.
