Chapter 1 - Chapter one : whispers in the hallway

Ji-eun had imagined her first day at Seoul High School so many times fresh notebooks, a fresh start, maybe even a friend or two.

But reality felt colder….

Meet Ji-eun (Choi Ji-eun), A shy, introverted new girl who transfers to Seoul High from a

smaller town. She's observant, emotionally sensitive, and struggles to fit in. Haunted by

whispers and isolation, Ji-eun is determined to survive in a school that feels more like a

battlefield.

Meet Min-ho (Kang Min-ho), The school's feared bully silent, cold, and intimidating.

Known for his piercing gaze and unpredictable temper, Min-ho keeps everyone at arm's

length. But beneath his cruel mask is a tormented soul hiding deep family trauma.

Meet Soo-jin (Han Soo-jin), The leader of the most popular clique in school. Beautiful,

manipulative, and territorial, Soo-jin plays innocent in public but wields power behind the

scenes. She sees Ji-eun as a threat especially when Min-ho starts noticing her.

Meet Mr. Yoon, A well-meaning teacher who tries to push students into working together,

unaware of the tension that brews beneath the surface. His decision to group Ji-eun and Min-ho together will trigger unexpected consequences.

As she stepped through the towering iron gates, silence swallowed her thoughts. The students

walking past were all dressed in the same crisp uniforms, their faces sharp, perfect,

unreadable. They barely glanced at her but when they did, it was like being dissected.

Whispers fluttered through the hallway like wind between broken windows.

"Is that her?"

"She transferred from some town outside Seoul."

"I heard she begged to get in here…"

Ji-eun kept her eyes low, her grip tightening on the strap of her backpack. It was supposed to

be different here. It was supposed to be better.

The school was beautiful marble floors, wide staircases, and glowing sunlight spilling

across the polished halls. But nothing felt warm. Even the teachers walked like shadows.

As she reached her classroom door, she paused.

A boy leaned against the wall beside it, tall and broad-shouldered. His black hair fell just over

his eyes, and he didn't look up until she stepped closer. Then his gaze met hers. Cold.

Sharp. Unfeeling.

"Move," he said, his voice flat but commanding.

She shifted aside quickly, heart racing.

He pushed the door open, walked in, and a wave of voices greeted him. Laughter. High-fives.

Fake smiles.

Ji-eun entered quietly, hoping to disappear but eyes locked on her instantly. The girl in the

front row Hye-jin tilted her head with a smirk.

"Well, well," Hye-jin said, loud enough for everyone to hear. "The charity case arrived."

Laughter followed, low and cruel.

Ji-eun froze. Not again.

She found the only empty seat near the window and sat down, wishing she could melt into the

floor.

Her eyes flicked to the boy again. He sat in the back, alone. Even though everyone laughed

with him, no one sat too close. He stared at her, expression unreadable.

Later, during lunch, she sat outside by herself under a tree. She hadn't even opened her food

when a group passed by. Hye-jin among them.

"She doesn't even talk. Maybe she's mute," someone whispered.

"Maybe she's hiding something."

The mystery wasn't just about them. It was about her too.

And deep inside, Ji-eun began to realize… Something about this school was wrong. The

smiles were fake. The laughter was hollow.

And the boy with the cold eyes Min-ho was hiding something, too.

Something heavy.

Something dangerous.

"How do you survive in a school where every smile feels like a threat… and every secret

could destroy you?"...
