Chapter 4
"Ha!" Felicia sneered. "I didn't send Spider-Man to do that kind of dirty work."
"After witnessing Thompson kill Ben Urich at his house, I grabbed a gun, went to Thompson's office, and shot him dead!"
"I don't think I missed," she said, turning to look at Thompson. "But... why is he still alive and well?"
"That was just a despicable imposter!" Thompson struggled to stand in the cage, shouting.
"An imposter?" Felicia was shocked.
"Yes," the Green Goblin's voice came from behind. "Unfortunately, that was one of my people."
At this moment, Kraven the Hunter, standing nearby, gritted his teeth and glared at Felicia. "My idiot brother... killed by a woman!"
The Green Goblin grabbed Felicia. "I'm sorry, dear. I actually valued our relationship, but the Chameleon was one of us. This can't just be swept under the rug, or I won't be able to explain it to them!"
"Don't touch me!" Felicia pushed the Green Goblin away and slapped him.
For a woman, her strength was surprising, thanks to years of persistent training.
But the next moment, Kraven the Hunter grabbed her hair and pinned her to the ground.
"You killed my dear brother. How do you want to die?"
The Green Goblin's face showed cracked skin, and he angrily covered the cracked area, looking at Felicia on the ground. "You've angered me! I wanted this to end quickly and easily, but you always do things that make me mad... You know the consequences of making me angry!"
"Kraven, bring her over here!"
Kraven the Hunter grabbed her hair and pulled Felicia up.
The three came to a glass container filled with hideous, venomous spiders.
The Green Goblin grabbed Felicia's hair and pressed her against the glass. "You like spiders, don't you? Avenging that spider, Urich?"
"Now open your eyes and look closely. When the Vulture brings that Parker kid here, I'll make him watch you thrown into the spiders' embrace!"
"Sorry, the Vulture only sent me with his apologies..."
A voice rang out at the right moment.
Immediately after, the Shadow Spider-Man descended from above, shooting webbing from both hands. "...He's been permanently detained!"
Snap!
Snap!
Two clumps of webbing hit the two closest Green Goblin henchmen, binding them instantly.
Peter noticed that this Shadow Spider-Man's web-shooting method was different from his own. He used synthetic webbing, while this one shot directly from his wrists.
The advantage was that his webs could be fired at will, unlike his own, which could only follow the preset modes of the web-shooter.
Maybe when he got back, he could tweak his web-shooter to work like this?
Below, the Green Goblin and Kraven the Hunter were startled. Kraven quickly drew a gun and fired at Peter.
Buzz~
The spider-sense triggered automatically.
Peter landed on the ground, nimbly dodging the bullet with a twist, then instinctively pulled out his revolver to retaliate.
But when he was about to pull the trigger, he hesitated.
On one hand, the high school Peter was now dominant in his consciousness. On the other, he remembered Aunt May's words.
"Wow, Spider-Man showing mercy? That's a first!" Kraven mocked.
"Idiot, what are you doing? Why not shoot him?" Jonah, locked in the cage nearby, shouted.
The Green Goblin laughed. "You're not an imposter, are you?"
"Hmph!" At that moment, Peter shot out a web, pulling Kraven to him and smashing a fist into his face.
Boom!
Kraven's mouth filled with blood, his fine teeth mostly knocked out, and his prominent nose was smashed crooked.
The immense force left him dizzy.
Peter threw two more punches, shattering Kraven's shoulder blades.
With the surgical capabilities of this era, even if they could be pieced back together, those arms would be useless in the future.
For an animal trainer, this was worse than death.
This was the compromise between the "good" Peter and the "evil" Peter.
The "evil" Peter wanted to kill these guys, while the "good" Peter couldn't bring himself to do it.
So their fused consciousness decided on a middle ground: disable him.
Peter let go of Kraven, tossing him aside on the ground.
Kraven lay limply, the successive sharp pains triggering his body's protective mechanism, sending him into a coma.
Clang!
At that moment, the sound of chains falling came from the nearby cage.
It turned out that while Peter dealt with the two henchmen and Kraven, the Green Goblin had opened the cage holding the tiger.
It was an albino tiger, nearly four meters long, ferocious beyond compare.
More importantly, the cage didn't open outward but toward Jonah's cage!
The Green Goblin grinned sinisterly. "Feeding time!"
"Aaah!" Jonah screamed in terror, retreating frantically.
But his feet were chained, limiting his movement, and the cage was small.
The white tiger, starved for days, was ravenous. Seeing Jonah, its eyes gleamed with ferocity and it pounced.
At the critical moment, Peter shot out two web nets, binding the tiger's upper and lower body, pulling it back.
The four-hundred-kilogram white tiger was yanked back by Peter, hanging upside down at the cage's edge.
Peter transferred the left-hand web to his right, pulled out his revolver, and shoved it into the tiger's ear canal.
Bang! Bang!
Two shots in succession.
The tiger's skull was tough, but it couldn't withstand bullets fired directly into its ear.
The two high-speed spinning bullets tore into its head, turning its brain to mush.
Roar—
The tiger let out a wail and died on the spot.
"Thanks, but forget about me, go save your girlfriend!" Jonah saw Peter was about to enter the cage to free him and quickly reminded him.
Peter knew he meant Felicia, though Felicia wasn't his girlfriend.
He didn't argue about it and turned to where the Green Goblin had been standing.
The Green Goblin had opened a door to an underground passage and was dragging Felicia inside, holding a gun to her head.
"If you dare follow, I'll blow her head off!" The Green Goblin left a threat before jumping into the passage with Felicia, disappearing.
"Widow, ugh eee ding ow shrimp lah mee!"
Just as Peter was about to pursue, his spider-sense warned him again, and a figure shouted and lunged at him from behind.
