Chapter 1 - The Day Before Everything Changed

I always thought Mondays were the worst.

But Tuesdays... they had a strange kind of silence. Like the world was holding its breath.

The classroom was buzzing with the usual chaos. Laughter. Arguing. Desk scraping. Gum snapping. The kind of noise you learn to tune out after a while. I sat near the window—not because I wanted to look cool or anything—but because it was the only spot where I could think.

From here, I could see them all. The people I'd come to know, tolerate, and maybe even care about in this ridiculous circus we called 3-G.

Rika Aizawa, my girlfriend, sat diagonally in front of me. She was fiddling with her phone, frowning like it had offended her. Her long black hair kept slipping over her shoulder, and she'd blow it away with this little "tch" that she thought no one noticed. She was spoiled, lazy with schoolwork, and had the most terrifying aim with a rubber band I'd ever seen.Still… I loved her.

Itsuki Haruma, my best friend, sat to my right—nose buried in a novel again. He wasn't just smart, he was scary smart. The type who could tell you how the world worked and why it was failing before you even finished your breakfast. He didn't talk much unless I asked first, but that was fine. I liked the silence we shared.

At the back row sat Amano Sora, the guy no one really knew how to deal with. He had this aura—like he was always five moves ahead but didn't care enough to play the game. He never raised his hand in class. Never joined group activities.Still… you'd catch him staring at Rika when he thought no one was watching.Yeah, I noticed. I just didn't say anything.

Next to him, joking and laughing like a storm cloud that didn't know how to rain, was Daigo Shun.Big guy, big heart, loud mouth. Always pulling Sora into nonsense, even if Sora looked like he'd rather vanish into thin air.Strangely, Sora never pushed him away.

Ayaka Fujino, Rika's best friend, sat near the front. Graceful, calm, a total contrast to Rika's chaos. She was the class's unofficial nurse—always had tissues, band-aids, or advice. She once scolded me for forgetting lunch and gave me half of hers.I never forgot again.

Two seats over was Riku Kamishiro, a narcissist with a god complex. Always fixing his hair in the reflection of his phone. He called himself "The Prodigy" unironically. No one liked him, but no one ignored him either.

Sayaka Minori kept to herself, head down, always writing something in a black notebook. Rumor was she practiced sword forms behind the school gym, but no one had the guts to confirm it.She gave off a dangerous vibe—but not in a threatening way. More like… don't waste her time.

In the middle row sat Yui Kanzaki, bouncing her knee and tapping her pen like she was racing time itself. Hyperactive, competitive, loud. She once challenged the PE teacher to a push-up contest—and won.She made me tired just by existing.

Then there was Noa Yukimura, icy quiet and hauntingly elegant. People said she could use all four elemental magic types in games. I believed it.She looked like someone who was born in the wrong world—too ethereal for this place.

Reiji Narukami, the school's unofficial "big brother," kept a peaceful smile most of the time. He broke up fights with a look and carried heavy boxes for teachers like it was nothing.I trusted him. Maybe too much.

Mei Tachibana was always yelling at someone—usually Sora. She'd turn red, flail, rant, then storm off.We all pretended not to notice she brought him snacks when she thought no one was looking.

Toru Makabe and Hinata Moriyama, the class clowns. They ran gags like a two-man comedy show. If something exploded, broke, or caught fire—you could bet it was them.Toru was chaos, Hinata was logic, and together they were a disaster I couldn't stop laughing at.

And then there were the others—twelve more of us, each with quirks and stories of their own. Some quiet, some loud, none truly unimportant. We were all… ordinary.

But that Tuesday... something was different. The air felt heavier. The clock's ticking felt louder.Even the sun through the window looked pale.

I looked around the room, watching them all just be themselves.

Laughing. Arguing. Dreaming. Wasting time like we always did.

And something deep inside me whispered:

"This might be the last day we live like this."

Wouldn't have believed it back then. Not until the sky cracked open the next morning. Not until the light swallowed us whole.

But I guess…

That's a story for another chapter.
