Chapter 2: Welcome to the First Verse
The blue screen flickered again:
[System]: Now, select 3 powers from the list below.
Raizen Nocturne squinted at the options appearing before him.
Raizen [thinking]:
> Energy Manipulation — can control any form of energy.
Justice — reveals if a person is evil, neutral, or good.
Teleportation — allows instant movement.
Switch Places — swap position with any object. Isn't that just teleportation?
Mind Reading — read the thoughts of others.
Copy — duplicate talent or skill after observing.
He rubbed his chin.
"There are so many options… but why are they all low-level?"
[System]: You can level them up later using points.
Raizen tilted his head. "Let me guess — I earn points by killing monsters and completing quests?"
[System]: Correct.
"Hmm…" He scanned the skills again.
**[System]: I recommend choosing:
1. Justice
2. Copy (Talent and Skill)
3. Switch Places**
Raizen paused, analyzing each one carefully. "Let me double-check their details…"
After a few moments of silence, he nodded.
"Alright, I'll go with your suggestion — but instead of Switch Places, I'll choose Energy Manipulation as my third ability."
[System]: Confirmed. There will be no issues. You may select freely.
A wave of anticipation surged in Raizen's chest. "Great. So… what's my first verse?"
A glowing door appeared in the center of the white void.
[System]: Walk through this portal to reach your destination. I will explain the rest once you arrive.
Raizen stretched. "Let's go, then. Just wait for me a little longer, Mom."
As he stepped toward the door, another prompt popped up.
[System]: Select transport method —
Option 1: Transfer your soul into a random body in the new verse.
Option 2: Arrive in your own body at a random location.
Option 3: [Locked — Not eligible for this verse.]
Raizen [thinking]:
"Option 1 seems smarter. I'll already have an identity in the new world — that might give me some benefits. Let's go with that."
A blinding light erupted as he stepped through the door. He instinctively closed his eyes.
When he opened them again…
Thud.
Pain pulsed through his body.
He looked down — bruises, cuts, blood on his lips.
"What the hell?"
He was now in a frail, teenage body lying in a dark alley, clearly beaten up.
He groaned, stood up slowly, and limped out.
Raizen looked up at the sky — expecting to see swordsmen soaring through the clouds, glowing portals in the heavens, or dragons tearing across the horizon.
But instead... planes flew calmly above, and a few birds passed by lazily.
Cars honked in the streets. people glued to their phones while walking.neon signs on buildings.Skyscrapers lined the skyline.
Raizen [shouting]:
"System! Where are the swordsmen flying through the sky?!
Where are the knights riding horses?! What is this?!"
It was just… modern Earth.
Raizen [shouting]:
"System! Where are the swordsmen flying through the sky?!
Where are the knights riding horses?! What is this?!"
[System]: Welcome to Verse 1.
