Chapter 9 - Chains of Blood

The wind carried ash.

Not from fire, but from what was left behind.

A burned encampment. Corpses half-buried in smoking soil. No visible flames, no crater — just pure silence and the faint scent of scorched chakra.

In the distance, under the twisted moonlight, a figure walked — long coat billowing, katana sheathed, red hair tied in a windswept ponytail. His steps left no sound. His chakra left no signature.

But his presence…

It crushed the air.

Naruto Uzumaki was not a boy anymore.

He was a warning. A legend taking form.

And tonight, his chains would dance.

He approached the valley bunker slowly — a hidden fortress housing a mercenary militia trained by ex-Kirigakure ANBU. The group was infamous for kidnapping chakra-sensitive children and selling them to rogue factions.

Naruto had tracked them for four days without resting.

He'd already killed two of their outposts.

But this was the root.

He whispered to the wind, "Tonight, I bury your name."

Two guards at the entrance. Swords drawn. Jōnin-level chakra flaring faintly.

Naruto didn't draw his katana.

Instead, he reached over his shoulder, tapped a small seal inked on his upper back, and released it silently.

The ground beneath the guards trembled — too late.

Chains surged from the shadows beneath their feet, not metallic but woven of chakra — glowing dark red with Uzumaki script. They wrapped around their ankles before they could scream.

The first guard tried to form a jutsu.

Naruto whispered, "Disrupt Seal: Core Coil."

His chain pulsed once.

The man's chakra pathways shattered like glass.

He collapsed, blood dripping from his eyes.

The second tried to run.

The chains dragged him under the soil.

When it stilled, only his foot remained above the dirt — twitching.

Naruto stepped inside.

His fingers pulsed with chakra as he traced a circle on the wall, activating a localized silencing array. The alarm system failed without even registering his presence.

He moved like smoke.

In the first hallway, two enemy shinobi passed by, laughing about some failed mission.

They didn't even have time to draw breath.

A single chain curved from Naruto's sleeve, invisible to normal eyes. It pierced the first man through the heart, then whipped sideways, snapping the second's neck with a sickening crunch.

Not a sound echoed.

The bodies fell like leaves.

Naruto kept walking.

He turned a corner and found himself in a wide, open chamber — thirty men, training, gambling, some sleeping.

He didn't wait.

He stepped forward and slammed his palm to the ground.

"Seal Style: Spiral Execution Field."

A glowing dome of script exploded outward.

Chains erupted from every surface.

They wrapped legs, cut throats, shattered ribs, dragged bodies screaming into the stone walls. Chakra barriers tried to go up — Naruto clapped once.

"Compression Seal: Collapsing Core."

The very air around them folded, turning chakra against its users.

Those who survived the first five seconds tried to flee.

Naruto created two shadow clones.

They didn't speak. They simply walked forward, slicing anyone who moved.

He stood at the center, unmoving, cloak dusted in blood.

Kurama's voice echoed in his mind, low and amused.

"You're not just killing them."

"I'm teaching them."

"What, exactly?"

Naruto raised his hand. Three chains danced from his fingertips like serpents.

"What it means to breathe in a world where I still exist."

A large man — nearly seven feet, face scarred, wielding dual axes and earth nature armor — barreled through the chaos. "WHO THE HELL ARE YOU?!"

Naruto tilted his head.

Then spoke, quiet and final.

"The one who outlived mercy."

He vanished.

Reappeared above the man with a spinning fire-wind seal in his hand — "Crimson Vortex Fang."

It struck the giant in the chest.

The man exploded.

Not burned.

Not crushed.

Obliterated.

One survivor — barely standing — tried crawling toward the exit, gasping, eyes wide.

Naruto walked up behind him. Crouched beside him. Quietly watched the man's trembling fingers reaching for the door.

He didn't stop him.

Not yet.

"Tell the rest," Naruto whispered, "that I am still alive."

"Y-You... You're not from any village..."

Naruto's eyes glowed faintly in the dark.

"No. I'm what's left after a village fails."

He stood and let the man crawl away.

Half a message, half a mercy.

Naruto stepped back into the wind and wiped blood from his cheek.

Kurama spoke again.

"You should feel satisfied."

"I don't."

"Why?"

Naruto looked toward the stars — cold, distant, untouched.

"They were nothing. They didn't matter."

Kurama's voice turned quiet.

"Then what are you waiting for?"

Naruto's voice was a breath in the wind.

"Danzo."

Status Window triggered.

That night, across several black-market territories, a rumor spread.

A figure with red eyes. Chains that could slice the wind. No sound. No chakra signature. No mercy.

They didn't call him by name.

They called him the Chain Ghost.

Some said he was a fallen god.

Some said he was the demon reborn.

But none dared say he came from Konoha.

Because if they did, they'd have to admit the Leaf had created him.

And worse — that he was coming back.
