Chapter 1 - Preparation

In a small village, far away from Lock city, a man around the age of twenty five was running through the burning houses, holding an twelve-year-old boy, beside him his wife was running with him.

Stopping at there house which was relatively untouched, he opened the door, gave the child to his wife, and pushed them inside.

"What are you doing? come inside." the woman said.

 But it was too late.

Behind the man, a human like creature with bat like wings, and elk like horns, was descending from the sky.

"Take Grey and hide in the bunker." the man said in the softest tone he could muster.

Looking at the boy he caressed his cheek and said with a smile:

"Protect your mother and sister, okay?"

In responds, the boy nodded.

With that, the father closed the door, and the mother headed to the bunker, tears streaming down her cheeks.

***Three Years Later***

(Grey)

Standing on the shore of the lake, a youth with pale skin, long wheat blonde hair and a pair of golden eyes.

I was deep in thought trying to make a decision, and recalling his father's last words.

"Protect your mother and sister."

At that time I didn't know it but my mother was pregnent with my now three year old sister.

Making a decision, I walked away from the lake.

I decided to go on a journey.

Of course I wasn't stupid I wouldn't just leave the Lock, the city I was in right now, for no reason. no I had a very good one, I was planning to awaken.

There are two ways to awaken, one is to absorb ether shards by killing awakened beasts, the second and the way I was hoping I would awaken, was to find an Authority scroll.

While absorbing shards awakens one's Authority over time by slowly introducing ether to the body, it takes a while and is dangerous due to the fact that you have to hunt beasts to get shards.

Authority scrolls, on the other hand, forcefully awaken the Authority, by introducing all the ether needed to awaken at once, the only down sides are that they are hard to find, and awaking that way hurts like shit.

But it was the easy way, so I'm aiming to find one.

Finally arriving at the adventurers guild, and entering.

Instantly, I felt countless eyes staring at him.

I did not mind them, and walked towards the reception desk.

"Welcome to the adventures guild. How can i help you?" a female voice said from behind the desk.

"I would like to sign up as an adventurer."

"Okay, write your name, age, and seals broken." she said, giving me a contract, and pointing at a few spaces.

I wrote my name "Grey", my age "15" and the number of authority seals i've broken "zero", and handed the contract back.

She took it and said:

"Alright, sit and wait."

'Well that was easy.' i thought, going to one of an empty table.

I intentionally chose a table close to a seemingly experienced party.

I wanted to over hear any thing about the where abouts of an Authority scroll.

On the table sat a middle aged man around his forties, he was bald and had a thick black beard, with a couple of white strands here and there. On the same table sat a hooded figure, that i guessed was a girl.

About forty minutes passed, and someone said something that caught my interest.

"So, what are you going to do now?" a deep voice came from the table next to me.

Without looking i knew that the speaker was the middle aged man.

"What else? since you are unable to come with me, and since I can't leave the city alone, I'll just ask around for someone to come with me."

The paused for a moment, then added:

"But I must ask. How certain are you that there is an Authority scroll in the location you gave me?"

'Bingo.' i thought.

The man laughed, and said:

"Don't worry, your father paid me quite a hefty amount of money, so I won't give you a location until I'm one hundred percent sure."

[Grey]

Just as the man finished his words, a voice came from the speakers.

Getting up, and heading to the reception desk.

"Here, you go." the lady said, handing me a card.

I took it and read it.

"Because of your rank, you are prohibited from leaving Lock city without at least another one of your rank." the lady said.

Nodding my head, i headed to the door, and left

After walking for a bit, a female voice called out to me.

"Excuse me!"

***

(Amanda)

[Grey]

A voice came from the speaker.

A boy with wheat blond hair, and pale skin, sat up from the table next to the one I sat on, got up and headed to the reception desk.

Soon after a young man in the guild's uniform, came up to the table.

"Lady Amanda, the guild master is waiting for you at his office."

"Lead the way." i said getting up.

He lead me to the upper floor of the building, and to the office of the guild's master.

Opening the door he let me in, and closed it behind me.

The office was not too large but not small, it was lit by a single chandelier in the middle of the office, under it a table with two sofas of it's sides.

On one of the sofas, sat a man around his fifties, he had brown hair, a thick beard with strands of white, and jade eyes.

Walking to the sofa opposite him, I took a seat.

"It's an honor to personally meet a princess of the blood domain." the man said, smirking.

Letting out a sigh, i said:

"Shut up."

"That hurts coming from my own nephew." he laughed.

"I'm in a hurry." i said. "So hurry up and give me the card."

"I still don't understand why you don't just ask your father to give you a scroll."

"I want to earn it."

My uncle looked at me for a moment, sighed, and handed me a card.

Taking it, i read.

"You can not leave the the Lock alone, you must me at least in a team of two." my uncle said.

"I know." i said standing up, and heading to the door.

"Come visit your dear uncle, okay?"

"Yeah. Yeah." i said closing the door.

I walked until i was out side of the guild.

Not too far away, i spotted a boy with wheat blond hair, he was around the same height as me.

'Grey." I remembered his name.

A thought bloomed in my mind and i headed towards him.

"Excuse me!"
