Chapter 26 - Chapter Twenty-Six: When Comparison Creeps In, Confidence Walks Out

Angela stopped texting first.

Not because she was being petty.

But because she was tired of initiating what he claimed to care about.

Peter didn't notice at first.

He thought it was stress.

Exams.

Fellowship pressure.

But the shift was real.

She no longer laughed at his random memes.

No more "good night" voice notes.

No more "I saw this Scripture and thought of you."

Just… silence with a smile.

---

Peter, meanwhile, was busy preparing for a campus revival conference.

With Grace.

They were co-hosting.

Co-teaching.

Co-praying.

And Angela?

She wasn't even asked to attend.

Let alone serve.

Tamara noticed.

"They're getting close," she said, scrolling through Grace's Instagram story.

"Did you see the 'tag team ministration' caption?"

Angela nodded. "I'm not angry."

Tamara squinted. "You sure?"

Angela sipped her water. "I'm not angry. I'm just… not surprised."

---

Then came the night that changed everything.

Angela was at Peter's apartment.

He had stepped out to get suya.

Her phone was dead, so she asked to borrow his charger.

As she reached for it, his phone lit up.

A message from Grace.

>>> "You're so much easier to talk to than her. I feel like I'm not competing for your attention."

Angela stared at the screen.

Didn't touch it.

Didn't scroll.

Just… froze.

---

When Peter walked in, he knew something was off.

She smiled.

Calmly.

"Your suya's dripping," she said, pointing to the paper.

Peter chuckled, nervously.

She stood. Grabbed her bag.

"You know what sucks?" she said, still smiling.

Peter blinked. "What?"

"That I finally believed love could be holy again… only for the person holding it to become careless."

Peter dropped the suya. "Angela—"

"No," she interrupted. "Don't explain. You didn't cheat. You just left the door open wide enough for someone else to step in and say what I was too graceful to."

Silence.

"I'm not going to beg you to choose me," she added. "Because I was never a backup plan."

Then she walked out.

No tears.

No voice raised.

Just dignity and a quiet heartbreak.

That night, Peter stared at his phone.

Grace's text.

Angela's silence.

And for the first time in a long time?

He realized he might've lost the only woman who actually made him better.
