Hearing his mother Roland's words, Raymond felt a sense of relief in his heart because, as long as the person wasn't dead, he could figure out a way to help.
But his anger had not faded. He asked, "What exactly happened? How did it suddenly turn out like this?"
When her son asked, Roland seemed to hesitate for a moment and didn't immediately answer.
It was Clarice, sitting beside them, who softly spoke, "Brother knows about my situation…"
"He knows?" Roland, hearing this, immediately stopped hesitating. She looked at Clarice with some displeasure. "So, you two have been plotting together, planning to keep this from us?"
Upon hearing this, Raymond realized that Roland must have already known about Clarice being a mutant.
The earlier hesitation was because she wasn't sure whether to tell him, perhaps fearing that he might develop a bad opinion of his sister because of it.
"What exactly happened? Clarice, you tell me—" Raymond looked at Clarice.
Clarice nodded and began explaining everything. She described how their father, Fong Mo, had received an emergency call and rushed to Miller Park, how she couldn't resist her curiosity and secretly used her powers to follow him, and how she later saw Fong Mo and a group of police officers discover a group of cultists performing some kind of ritual.
"Cultists?"
Hearing that term, Raymond slightly furrowed his brows.
He hadn't encountered cultists in this world yet, but from what he knew, he understood how troublesome these cultists could be.
After all, this world had far too many evil gods.
From the "Lord of Lies" Mephisto, to the "Fallen Angel" Lucifer, to the "King of Hell" Marduk…
These were just some of the more well-known names. If you counted those who weren't widely recognized, there were more than he could count on both hands.
These evil gods, or rather, the lords of hell, had been active in the multiverse for ages, influencing various worlds through different means to achieve their own hidden agendas.
Earth was one of their most favored locations.
Because of this, many cultists probably really had superpowers—they weren't just fakes.
"What happened next?" Raymond asked.
"After that, Dad and the others rushed in, trying to rescue the people tied to the altar, but the cultists stopped them. At first, they fired warning shots, but when that didn't work, they started shooting. However…"
At the word "however," Raymond knew that the key point was coming.
"But the cultists seemed to be impervious to bullets. No matter how much Dad and the others shot at them, they didn't get hurt, and they ended up injuring Dad and the others."
Clarice lowered her head as she continued, "Seeing that things were going wrong, I opened a space door underneath Dad and saved him, then took him home…"
As she spoke, her voice grew softer.
By now, Raymond had pieced together what had happened.
Clarice had become quiet and stopped speaking because she felt guilty.
She felt guilty for only saving her father, Fong Mo, in the heat of the moment and not being able to rescue the other officers.
Raymond stepped forward and pulled Clarice into his arms, gently stroking her hair. "You have no reason to feel guilty. If you hadn't acted, even Dad might have ended up in the hands of those cultists, and we wouldn't even know if he was alive or dead..."
"If I were you, I would have made the same choice. This isn't your fault," Raymond reassured her.
"Mm." Clarice replied softly.
But it was clear that she still couldn't let go of her feelings.
Raymond didn't force her to speak and understood she might need some time to process things.
"You stay here with Mom. Keep an eye on things. If Dad's condition changes, contact me immediately. I'll be back soon."
He patted Clarice's shoulder and gave her instructions.
Hearing Raymond's words, Clarice immediately guessed his plan and quickly said, "I'll go with you."
"Listen to me and Stay here," Raymond refused firmly.
After saying that, he turned and left.
Roland, thinking that Raymond was just going to check on the situation at the hospital, didn't question him further. However, after Raymond left, she noticed that Clarice looked a little strange and finally spoke up:
"Don't blame yourself too much. Your brother is right; this isn't your fault. If anyone is to blame, it's those insane cultists!"
"I'm not blaming myself. I'm just worried that Brother might not be able to handle those cultists..." Clarice said, her voice filled with concern.
Clarice didn't fully understand Raymond's abilities. The only time she had seen Raymond in action was when his Deadshot personality used a firearm for a long-range sniping attack, not showing any of his other skills.
So while she knew Raymond was very capable and his identity must be complex, she still worried about whether he would get hurt.
"What? He's going after the cultists?" Roland was shocked by her daughter's words. She suddenly felt as if she was on edge, like a panicked insect on a hot stove. "Why didn't you stop him if you knew? How could he possibly fight those cultists?"
Clarice didn't have confidence, but Roland didn't believe Raymond could handle the cultists.
From Clarice's description, those were creatures impervious to knives and bullets.
Wasn't Raymond walking straight into death by going there?
While she hated those cultists for injuring her husband so severely, she didn't want to see her son walk into danger.
"No, I have to go after him! I need to stop him!"
Roland suddenly made up her mind.
Clarice quickly stopped her mother, saying, "Mom, Brother is really strong…"
She then explained how Raymond had saved her last time, trying to calm Roland down.
While mother and daughter were talking, Raymond had already arrived at Miller Park in less than half a minute, having rushed there straight from the hospital.
He raised his hands and quickly formed hand seals in the air:
"Multi Shadow Clone Jutsu!"
Boom! Boom!
Two shadow clones appeared in front of him.
After two visits to the Tao Pai Pai alternate personality's Immersive Mode, he had gained some basic control over the Multi Shadow Clone Jutsu.
Though he couldn't yet create a large number of clones like Naruto with the Nine-Tails, summoning two or three was still manageable.
If he pushed himself, he could even make five or six clones, but that would be a strain.
With a thought, he transferred two of his alternate personalities into the clones.
"...Good evening" the John Constantine alternate personality said lazily.
"I finally get a chance to come out!" the Exorcist alternate personality said, looking excited, as this was his first time appearing.
"There should be something like an altar in the park. It's for worshipping evil gods... Find it!"
Looking at his two alternate personalities, Raymond spoke with a blank expression.
