Chapter 55 - TRYING

"What?" Ashleah blinked her eyes a couple of times while she gulped slowly, trying to think of an excuse. Her eyes awkwardly looked at Nash who had the same reaction as her.

"Ashleah, Nash, I do not get it. What are you even saying?" He then tried to walk closer to them, making Ashleah with Nash beside him take a step back from Axis. "So it was the two of you?"

"What do you mean the two of us?" Nash replied back with also a confused look in his eyes. Ashleah blinked, she knew for a fact that no one heard them.. s-she made sure of it!

"The ones I heard talking." Axis finished talking and it was like there was this huge and unbelievable thunder that struck them. Ashleah chuckled, she knew that they were now dead meat if they continued to shut their mouths like this.

"It was nothing, Axis. I guess you misheard us-" She could not even finish what she was saying when Axis held Nash's arm and hers too, before pulling them inside the unknown chambers. "Axis, who's roo- chambers is this?"

"It's mine. I heard a glimpse of your conversation, yet I could not hear God's voice." Their heartbeats started to move quickly as their breathing slowly became unstable. "First, I was confused because I was the one that everyone called as the Chosen Child of God. And then, I heard you like you were both talking to him, I suddenly felt like do I really deserve this position-"

"NO!" Both said in sync with their eyes widened. Ashleah took a deep breath while massaging her neck. "Axis, seriously it was nothing, I guess you just misheard it."

"Misheard what? About that mission, is it about our mission or you two have your own missions too? W-why are you hiding things to me?" They both saw how this pain crossed in his eyes, Ashleah felt like there was someone who squeezed her heart and that is the main reason why she turned her head away from Axis.

"Axis, even though I want to badly tell you what's happening to us right now you would be deeply confused." Nash took a deep breath and ruffled his hair due to the situation that is currently happening and it was giving him a lot of problems.

"Then try to explain it to me! I am going to do my best to understand it." He blurts out of frustration too. "Why are you two leaving me out?"

Before they can respond to what Axis was saying but suddenly-

"Dear Child please do understand that they are also having a hard time telling you the truth." The voice that Axis was dying to hear finally spoke to him, giving him the goosebumps that he never expected to experience.

"Great, he finally spoke up. Good timing-" Ashleah could not even finish what she was saying when Nash covered her lips and refrained her from talking too much because he knew that Axis would probably be confused and surprised at the moment.

"I am sending my deepest apologies for I never dared to talk to my chosen child. I just do not know what tell you." They heard how calm his voice was.

Axis blinked his eyes a couple of times and gulped slowly. "N-No, oh dear. I am the one who should apologize for I got mad–"

"We struck a deal." God suddenly blurts our making Ashleah widen her eyes as she quickly removed Nash's hand away from her mouth.

"Wait, are you seriously telling him about it? Please, do not tell him. It will make the situation a little harder–"

The God who cannot be seen but you can feel his presence cleared his throat making Ashleah stop talking.

"We struck a deal, I cannot tell you the details but that is for the best for everyone. I also feel secure that you are friends with such amazing people."

Ashleah scoffed and tried not to roll her eyes. "Axis, take your time and talk to him. We'll be waiting in front of the carriage." Ashleah warmly said before waving her hand.

As soon as they closed the door, Ashleah looked around and making sure that no one was around she stumped her feet and groaned like a kid would do.

"Stop it, Ashleah. What if someone sees you doing a tantrum like that?" Nash quickly held Ashleah's shoulder and then cupped her cheeks slowly and softly tapping it.

With her cheeks being squeezed by Nash, she glared at him. "Seriously, why is this even happening? I can't even stop myself from talking too much."

Nash chuckled and shook his head. "Want me to help you to stop from talking too much?" Tilting his head, he slowly moved closer making Ashleah yet again widen her eyes and pull away with her reddish tinted cheeks and ears.

"I-I will just do my best not to talk too much from now on! So that I can refrain from telling them too much information." She said, softly covering her smiling lips from Nash. "Let's go to the carriage so that we can meet Axis there."

She quickly turned around and started walking not even waiting for Nash who had this amused look plastered on his face.

Anxiously waiting for Axis to come, Ashleah wanted to bite her nails, but Nash quickly saw her and how she was going to do it so the man who had fast reflexes stopped her by tapping her waist lightly.

"Ashleah, do not do that out in the public. Everyone can see you plus that's not really healthy for your nails. You do know that don't you?" He whispered in her ears.

"O-Okay. Just don't do that whispering thing Nash." She blinked her eyes a couple of times with yet again her blushing face making Nash chuckle and shake his head.

"Oh, there's Axis." He looked, Ashleah then gazed at the man who was walking to their way, actually no scratch that– he was actually walking elegantly with a bright smile on his lips making Nash and Ashleah sigh in relief.

"He looks like he had a great talk with him–" When Ashleah said the word 'Him' she looked up with a cheeky smile on her face and shook her head right after.

"I think so too." He smiled. As soon as Axis was in front of them, the man giggled and took a deep breath before releasing it he smiled at them.

"I am deeply sorry for misunderstanding the situation– I did not know that it was a very important deal and all of my concerns were just about me. Still, I am very thankful that you did not threw a fit at me or what." He smiled like a kid, and it was like melting their hearts to be honest! Damn the powers of overly handsome men.

"It's fine, Axis. We're friends aren't we? So try to refrain yourself from suddenly getting mad okay? That can ruin your reputation." Ashleah did her best to whisper every word she was saying because everything can spread so quickly without you even noticing it.

"Ashleah's right about that. Well then, I do want to talk to you a little long Axis but I have a lot of plans for today and Ashleah has too." Nash sighed and slowly ruffled his hair.

"It's fine, I have mine too. Let's just have fun sooner or later mm?" He raised both of his eyebrows making Nash and Ashleah laugh while nodding their heads.

Meanwhile... Prescott sighed and shook his head while walking around Emperor Alder's table.

"Prescott, just tell me do you have any informations about the investigation that you're currently doing?" The Emperor blurts out making Prescott almost scream in surprise.

"Sadly, Your Majesty I am doing my best to find out where they are hiding. Still, it is indeed hard. But I am TRYING."
